A pyridoxal-phosphate protein. Also acts on L-cysteate. The 1992 edition of the Enzyme List erroneously gave the name sulfoalanine decarboxylase to this enzyme.

"Cysteine sulfinate decarboxylase (CSD) is the rate-limiting biosynthetic enzyme of taurine, but it is still controversial whether the male reproductive organs have the function to synthesize taurine through CSD pathway." (16252094)
